School visits are usually
planned months in advance. Make your school visit to the
maize maze the focus of a School Project that covers several
weeks!
For the chosen year-group,
introduce the Maze Topic three weeks before the visit.
The challenge is for every pupil to create a maze of their
own before the visit, in whatever materials they wish.
These can include drawings, paintings, models (using balsa
wood or papier mache), string and glue, model building
bricks, mosaic or tiles, etc. Sometimes "performance"
mazes are created on computer, or consist of a piece of
drama (which you could videotape or record on audio tape).
We suggest various
sources of research material. We have web pages for school
projects, which provide ideas about all aspects of mazes
and labyrinths - their history, mythology, how to design
them, how to solve them, and where to find the best ones
today. We also suggest books, magazines, other websites,
etc. where you can find out more.
On the day,
the school party has an exclusive arrival time. The friendly
welcome includes an explanation of where the various activities
are, and how to enjoy them. We ask schools to ensure the
appropriate ratio of adults to pupils. The maze day visit
will include solving the giant cornfield maize maze, finding
all the questions to the Quiz Trail, trying each of the
Six-Minute Mazes in the courtyard, and seeing all the other
courtyard activities. Different farms feature a petting
zoo with farmyard animals; train rides; adventure challenges;
and much more.
